Contingency of All Hail the Chocolate Dragons trailer LO2/3/4

With the All Hail the Chocolate Dragons trailer we will have to be revising some aspects of the trailer  to make this more non-linear as a result.
This will including
  • Removing scenes that may give out too much of the plot like the scene where Chad Wagon and Erwin Daggers meet up
  • More action, less dialogue
  • Voice of Wacky Time video is a narrator
  • Add in more mystery through aded in scenes that bring up plot points you will need to find out in the full movie.

Lesson review (LO2/3/4) 12/12/14

In today's lesson I have:
-Created a new production schedule that fit the filming delay for the Chad Wagon scenes

-Edited the Wacky Time to include Erwin Daggers' dialogue

-Exported the edited draft and uploaded to YouTube

Wacky Time edited (DRAFT) LO4

Filming Delay LO3

On the 11th of December we had planned to film some scenes that included the character of Chad Wagon. However we could not film these scenes as we couldn't get in contact with the actor for several days (leading to a possible replacement of him) and while we got the permission to film for the Millennium Galleries location, we could not get the signature on the permission form as the manager could not find the time. This will lead to a modification of the production schedule.

Production Schedule 8/2/14 to 12/12/14 LO3/4

Updated production schedule to include more editing time:

More updated production schedule due to the lack of ability to film for the Chad Wagon scenes.

All Hail the Chocolate Dragons Raw footage evaluation

The first recording of the films opening scene was successfully recorded after the second attempt of filming the scene. The characters were not showing an extensive amount of gestures during the footage, and they appear to have little movement in the scene, therefore we will not be using this footage.

\

During the wacky time scene (1:14-1:17) the character Arnie has been cut out of the footage, because the camera is positioned too high so that you cannot see the character head. It is important to keep the character fitting in the scene when he says wacky time, to keep the mood and so that we can see the other two characters in the background when they set off the party poppers.

The footage has a grainy texture which has been implemented purposely for this scene as it is supposed to look like a youtube video which the 3 pranksters have uploaded, this is why the quality has been made to look lower during the scene of the youtube video (whacky time.) The characters party popper did go off, (1:34-1:37) therefore this footage is not usable.

This footage did have all of the scene recorded correctly. However, this footage did not have enough high-key lighting, so it doesn't look as natural as it should for the daylight situation. The low-key lighting in the scene does reinforce the idea of the youtube video being seen as a threat, and for this reason it could be usable.

The characters in this footage did not seem as threatening as they should in the youtube video, however the high-lighting makes the protagonists stand out and it shows their authority and importance in the film trailer. The party popper did not go off in this scene so it would not be usable

This scene has too much low-key lighting which is preventing us from being able to see all of the protagonists as clearly as we would like to in this scene. We have a pan shot which is too slow to keep up with the characters who are running and the camera looses balance which makes it look un-steady. The wind can be heard quite loudly in this scene which would mean the audio would have to be removed making the scene lose verisimilitude.

This scene is too dark due to the low-key lighting which is in the footage. The footage would look much better if we could see the protagonists more clearly, and if the pan was smoother because it looks jolted. Also the vehicles which drive past during the footage makes us focus on them rather than the characters during this scene in the montage.

This footage is of him watching the Wacky time video with the video out of focus introducing the character of Daggers. It would have been used while the video is playing as an alternative angle. However this will not be used as his visitor badge is clearly shown here which would take away from the movie, would not make sense for a detective to have a visitor's badge in his office, and it generally looks unprofessional and bad.

This footage is of him watching the Wacky time video with the video in focus and not much emphasis on Erwin Daggers at all. It will be used while the video is playing as an alternative angle. However, while this will be used, the section of the video from 0:25 to 0:28 will not be used as somebody walks by which would ruin the scene. Daggers is meant to be alone. However the rest of the shot works.

This footage is of him watching the Wacky time video with the video in focus and no video of Daggers at all. This will not be used as there is a tripod in the shot that will ruin the scene and break the fourth wall in the trailer.

This footage will not be used as the actor did not speak his line and we pressed record accidentally.

This footage will not be used as the cameraman had implemented the pull focus too late, we wanted the effect of the pull focus being before he speaks his line.

\

This footage will not be used as the actor did not speak his line and we pressed record accidentally.

This footage will not be used as the actor did not speak his line and we pressed record accidentally.

This footage will be used as while the framing is a little bit wrong and the sound may need to be heavily edited or rerecorded but overall the shot works.

This footage will be used before the analysis scene very quickly as this will be used for crosscutting.

This cut will be used before he explains he can't sort out the woman's situation.

This footage will not be used as the actor did not speak his line and we pressed record accidentally.

This will be used before the zoom as the zoom in the next clips adds a dramatic effect to the scene

This will be used as the zoom creates a dramatic effect.

This will be used when the Chocolate Dragons video is playing through cross cutting.

This will be used while Daggers is analysing the video of the chocolate dragons through cross cutting.

This will not be used as the powerpoint messed up since the zoom was missing.

This will not be used as the powerpoint messed up since the zoom was missing.

This footage will not be used as it was an accidental recording.

This will be used in the trailer as this is where Erwin Daggers is analysing the Chocolate Dragons video. This will be modified during editing to have sound effects.

This will not be in the final trailer as this was a recording where the cameraman accidentally pressed the record button without things being ready to record.

This will not be in the final trailer as the lighting was too low key which isn't an effect we wanted, the camera was more in the left than the centre, it was not zoomed in enough for what we wanted to go for.

This could possibly be used as the camera is in the centre, the use of depth of field is effective, and the walking seems to work, but we will not use this as the lighting is too low key compared to other recordings, the camera still seems to look more like it is in the left and you can not see Chip very well.

No this will not be used in the final trailer as the camera is obviously too much to the right, the walk seems a little bit too goofy here and the low key lighting is still present.

This could possibly be used as the camera is in the centre, the walk looks good without any characters  overacting. However this will not be used in the final trailer as we still had the issue of lighting that looked too low key for our liking, especially when compared to later attempts of recording this.

This will not be used as this was an accidental recording attempt while the Cameraman (Joe) was trying to find the new lighting filter for the scene.

This will not be used as this was an accidental recording attempt while the Cameraman (Joe) was trying to find the new lighting filter for the scene.

This will not be used as this was an accidental recording attempt while the Cameraman (Joe) was trying to find the new lighting filter for the scene.

This will be used in the final trailer as the camera is in the centre, the walk looks like it is acted correctly, the lighting is exactly right for what we were looking for as it is more high key without losing some of the grit that you would expect in a Warp Films production.

This will be used in the final trailer as the angle used alongside the camera movement allows for all the characters to be seen clearly and gives the sense of motion through how it somewhat follows the characters.

This will not be used in the final trailer as this was an accidental recording.

This will be used in the final trailer as the shot of the moving vehicles tells the audience that this is a living normal city, it tells the audience where the Dragons are walking to, it shows both the colourful clean side of the city and the gritty side as well.

This will not be used in the final trailer as this was an accidental recording by Joe while we were discussing things and setting things up for the scene.

This will not be used in the final trailer as we made a change to the scene so that Arnie would be the one grabbed and yelled at rather than Brandy. Also the camera is too far away for the impact this scene would have.

This will not be used in the final trailer as we made a change to the scene so that Arnie would be the one grabbed and yelled at rather than Brandy. Also the tone of voice was not correct for the impact we wanted to go for.

Yes this will be used in the final trailer as this has the camera close enough for the impact, Chip has a loud tone of voice creating an threatening vibe to his character, alongside how Arnie looks like he is struggling.

This will not be used as this was an accidental recording by the cameraman.

This will not be used as this was an recording by the cameraman done as a joke.

This footage will not be present in the finished trailer as the camera work was a bit shaky in comparison to the take we took after. Also we wouldn't want somebody in our trailer without permission.

This footage could be used in the finished trailer as nobody is filmed but the camera is still a bit too shaky for our liking.

This footage will not be in the finished trailer as the camera seems too much of at an angle which looks almost canted, something we did not want to go for.

This footage could be in the finished trailer as the camera doesn't seem to shaky in comparison to the previous scenes and nobody is being filmed, but there is a bit of a tumble in the middle of the video.

This footage will be in the finished trailer as the camera doesn't seem shaky and nobody is being filmed .

This will not be in the finished trailer as this was a part of a scrapped idea of a joke where Brandy drops his phone, while the footage recorded on the phone is what the establishing shot would be. This idea was dropped because we couldn't find a natural way for the phone to fall.

No. This was just James just playing around with the camera without knowing it was recording.

This will not be used. This was just James just playing around with the camera without knowing it was recording.

This will not be used as this was an attempt at recording the shot of them unconscious which would not be used as we came up with a humorous element where Brandy is resting his head on Chip's shoulder.

This will not be used because we came up with the idea of Brandy resting his head on Chip's shoulder for some extra humour.

This will be used as Brandy is resting his head on Chip's shoulder. However the only part of this that will be used is when the clip is out of focus. This is because Chip's hand change position in the next clip, so to avoid inconsistency we will make sure this clip will keep out of focus so you cannot notice this slight inconsistency.

This will be used in the final trailer (aside from when Ken said "go" and when James started laughing obviously)

Treatment for All Hail the Chocolate Dragons LO2

TREATMENT
All Hail the Chocolate Dragons by James Hartshorn, Joe Taylor, Kenneth Abrina and Andrew Quinn

THE BRIEF
Produce a music video or film trailer in the style of Warp.

TARGET AUDIENCE
All Hail the Chocolate Dragons will have the target audience from 15 years old to 35 years old because of the plot focused around YouTube video making and has a comedic style that suits that age demographic. Not for a specific ethnicity, a working class audience that can afford to go to the cinema, and this works for the Internet Subculture thanks to that being the main theme of the movie.

SEGMENT SYNOPSIS AND HOW IT RELATES TO THE BRIEF
All Hail the Chocolate Dragons would be a feature length movie about a group of 3 quirky YouTube pranksters misinterpreted by a Private detective as terrorists, who has to team up with an obnoxious Youtube vlogger to try and stop them for something they're not.  This relates to the brief as this movie will take inspiration from the Warp film Four Lions with how the characters interact, it will appeal to teenagers and a younger adult demographic like Donkey Punch does, will take place in Sheffield with locations that create verisimilitude like many of Warp's productions alongside similar accents (Aside from the vlogger who speaks in a fake posh accent).

KEY MILESTONES
1. Planning - Beginning on the 27th October, we need to have the narrative of the movie, the song permission, storyboards of the movie, location scouting and permission to film in them, and our risk assessment by the 10th November
2. Filming - Beginning on the 10th November, we need to have filmed the footage for All Hail the Chocolate Dragons meaning we have done the lighting, directed how actors will perform lines and worked all the camera angles to appear by the 12th December.
3. Editing - Beginning on the 19th December, we need to have cut out the parts we do not need, applied music and sound effects to our trailer, adding in any effects and transitions we may need, and added the titles we will need by the 30th March.

EQUIPMENT
For the trailer for All Hail the Chocolate Dragons we will require a camcorder to record the movie, a tripod to keep the camera still and allow for smooth camera movements, and possibly lights for some indoor scenes to look more visible in case they're not.

PROPS AND MODELS
For the character of Arnie, he will be played by Kieran Mckenna, the character of Brandy will be played by either Sean Harris or Andrew Quinn depending on whether Sean cannot work for our schedule, and the character of Erwin Daggers will be played by Mr Haythorne of Firth Park Academy. Who hasn't been cast yet are the characters of Chip and Chad Wagon, though ideas for the roles have been decided.

For props we will need a party popper and a party blower for the "wacky time" part of the trailer, 3 computers/laptops as Erwin Daggers, Chad Wagon and the Chocolate Dragons all have scenes of using them and possibly a handgun prop for Chad Wagon to hold later on in the trailer.

HEALTH AND SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS.
For each location that we film in as part of this production we will complete a recce form and a risk assessment form. We will need to make sure equipment does not overheat because of how much we use them meaning they will have to be turned off every time we're not recording, since overheating not only damages the equipment but also it can harm the people handling them. Also carrying them in bags and handling them with care to avoid other means of damage to them is important as well. For the safety of the people whilst filming we need to make sure we film in safe locations (with permission to film there as well) and make sure they never have to do anything in the trailer that may cause harm.

LEGAL AND ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS.
Out of the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification’s) guidelines, we will need to adhere that there may be strong language in the product that is acceptable, even very strong depending on the manner of how it’s used, and the frequency, which is suitable for the concept of our trailer as it is about rebellious teenager characters.  There is a hint of a very serious terrorist threat in the trailer (which is a misunderstanding) and a strong threat that is not sadistic or sexual is acceptable. Violence in our trailer will not be present but at most violence would be very mild as it is a comedy (making strong violence out of place) and that is acceptable to the BBFC for a 15 rated movie.

The importance of following the BBFC is to avoid showing material that is not suitable for people who are below specific age group. Within the Chocolate Dragons Trailer there is explicit language, as well as moderate violence.

When creating the trailer for All Hail the Chocolate Dragons we need to ensure that we do not focus on pain when introducing violence into the trailer. We also need to ensure that the language does not include anything which could be deemed offensive.

The production of All Hail the Chocolate Dragons adheres to the rules of the BBFC because we have not shown any content which is too graphic and could offend anyone. We have made sure that the language which appears in our trailer is not too strong because it is a comedy trailer and we wouldn't want to limit the age limit of the trailer because it isn't necessary to use the language, and it would limit the demographic of our film trailer.

The watershed is the time when more adult content such as swearing, graphic violence and slight sexual content is okay to put on TV (This time is 9PM onwards) and since this trailer features swear words, this would need to be after 9PM, because this is intended as a 15 rated product.

We will gain permission for copyright music by emailing the companies that own the publishing for the required music. They should be fine with allowing us to use the music if they know that is for a non profit project. If this fails then there is always royalty free music that is available online an example of these websites include Incompetech.com

In lieu of the Data Protection 1998 Law, we will ask for permission for every form of footage we have. We will ask people for consent concerning the fact that we are going to feature them in our production. We will use consent forms as evidence to them agreeing that we are allowed to feature the actors and the locations we use. The consent forms will be done before any form of filming.

DISTRIBUTION
The trailer for All Hail the Chocolate Dragons will be found on the internet such as sites like YouTube and DailyMotion, it would be in the cinemas as a trailer before a 15 rated movie (usually comedies), it would be on Television post-watershed on channels such as Channel 4/E4/Film 4, Sky/Sky Movies, ITV etc; it could be before Warp films DVD/Blu Rays to get the film even more known. The film itself would be released in cinemas such as Vue and Odeon as the cinema is one of the biggest areas of success for a movie, it will be on DVD and Blu-Ray as they are still successful ways of distributing a movie since not everyone has the internet or uses an online service, streaming services such as Netflix and LoveFilm as digital streaming is a growing way of watching movies and since they're prepaid services, people aren't going to lose much watching allowing people to be more willing to try the movie out, it will be available as a digital paid download on services such as iTunes, Xbox Live and Amazon as they provide more options for people to watch a movie alongside easy access to the movie on a range of devices, the movie will be on TV channels such as Film 4/E4 and Sky Movies as they, like Netflix, are prepaid allowing people to easily watch the movie without having to pay any more money and bring the movie to the TV watching audience without internet access, and the movie will be available On Demand on services such as Virgin Media and Sky On demand to further get the TV watching audience without Internet access.
